From the beginning of the century, Estancia Arroyo Verde has enjoyed a very special environmental protection because it lies inside a Natural Reserve that is part of the Nahuel Huapi National Park, one of the oldest in the country.

The Traful valley, were "Arroyo Verde" lies, overlooks the Traful Lake, which is the source of the river that runs beautifully through the valley of the same name. This property is on the northern side of the river and occupies a surface of 12.500 acres. With its fantastically varied flora and fauna, is devoted to cattle breeding and sheep-rearing.

The spacious main house overlooking the valley of Traful has one suite and four double bedrooms with private bathrooms.

In the log cabin facing the lake, from the top of a rocky hill, four guests can sleep.

Fly Fishing

At the beginning of the season, the river is brim-full and fast flowing.

By December the water level diminished, but remains quite full till the end of January ( depending on the weather particularly on how much snow there is in the mountains).

After that, it flow more slowly till the first rains in autumn, when the level begins to rise again.

Part of the riverbanks are covered in bushes and willow trees, making fly-fishing an interesting exciting challenge.

.

The landlocked Salmon, which was introduced at the beginning of last century, has adapted here particularly well.

Sports anglers consider it the rivers most interesting fish because its such as strong fighter.

There are a lot of landlocked Salmon along the first few miles of the Traful, where it flows through Estancia Arroyo Verde, owned by Lariviere family. Both because of the rivers conditions and the families care and respect over so many years.

The best catches are in March and April (just when the fish begin to enter the river from the lake to spawn).

In addition to landlocked Salmon, the Traful harbours other trout species that live in Argentina, such us rainbow and brown trout.

There are also brook trout, though a lot fewer, and downstream, near the confluence the Limay a lot of native perch.

Regarding gear, it’s a good idea to use a number 5 or 6 rod, lines with a sinking tip, fast sinking shootings early in the season, and floating lines when the water begin to go down. Dry flies such as Black Ant, Mayfly with deer hair, Caddies, Grass Hopper, Coachman, Attractors: Chernobyl, yellow and orange Stimulators. Nymphs: Pheasant Tail, Stonefly, Montana Stone and Streamers: Matona,  Muddler Minnow, Woolly Bugger (Olive brown, black ), Marabou Muddler.

Many stories of great anglers like the Lariviere´s, who have been in the valley for more than seventy years, Jorge Donovan, Bebe Anchorena, Mel Krieger, Joe Brooks, Ernie Schwiebert,"Buby" García Calvo and many others, have gone down in the history of this fantastic river.

I believe Traful is one of the most beautiful, interesting and challenging river for flyfishing in the Argentina Patagonia.
